Monday Afternoon Stroll

Finally the cold has passed and spring has decided to make her appearance.  Ashton and I packed up and headed out to Stonewall for some quality time with Grandma and Grandpa Ashdown.  It was just too nice outside to stay indoors, so we ventured outside and took a short walk up and down Sunset Lane.  We even got Grandpa to join us.  Gee, if that’s all it takes to get Grandpa to exercise, it looks like Ashton and I will be making more frequent trips to Stonewall to get that ol’ man movin’!!  Right Ash?

You can’t deny that Grandpa had a good time, look at BOTH of them smiling!!!

Aunty Dani EXTRAVAGANZA!!!

On March 21st, Ashton and I had a play date with Aunty Dani! We started our morning off with breakfast at Stella’s on Grant then went to kid city to burn off some energy. Ashton climbed like crazy on the enormous play structures, through balls around in the “basketball/soccer court, pushed around a bubble car, stared at other children, and his favorite, taking a ride down the slide. Our funny little man decided backwards was best…

What a goof-ball!!

Mommy's Little Shopper

Recently Ken and I have come to the realization that our growing boy has developed the desire to become his own person, carry out his own tasks, and apparently do his own grocery shopping.  Except, all he is interested in buying is hats, sunglasses, books, and strangely enough mascara.  I think he’s been hanging out with mommy too much these days.  I think we need to break out his tool chest and put him to work on the house with daddy!!

Family Snow Play Day

It was a family day filled with fun, exhilaration and anticipation.  The day was bright, the air was warm and our appetites for adventure were enormous!  Our first stop you ask?  Isbister Park where the mountain of snow was great!  The speed in which you travel down the towering terror was off the charts.  With the wind whistling in their ears, daddy and Ashton push off and head down the mountain of doom…

Next up the sought after, swinging, switch-back sensation!!  You go back, and then forth, and then back and forth… and back and forth, and then back, and then forth!  Well, you get the jest…

Last on our list of daring dynamics, was the terrifying, teetering toboggan pull of mystery!  One man.  One boy.  One sleigh.  One night.  Hold on folks, you’re in for a wild ride…

My little puff-a-lump!!

CHRISTMAS!!!

Our little Malczewski clan had quite the fruitful Christmas celebration this year! We had 4 celebrations in 3 days, ALL in our humble-mid reno-abode.

Day 1: It all started on Christmas Eve when the Ashdown/Bell company came over. Unfortunately Nicole and Kelly could not attend, so we decided to make the best of it. We started the evening off with present opening and indulged in a few festive treats such as a cheese ball with crackers, smoked oysters, shrimp cocktail and turkey croustades. We were very blessed and received many beautiful gifts. Thanks to Grandma and Grandpa, and Aunty Michelle, Uncle Jeff and Lindsay for being so giving!!

Afterwards, for dinner we had Grandma’s world famous lasagna with garlic bread and ceasar salad. Dessert you ask? As if we had room… but we shoveled back lemon squares anyways, courtesy of Michelle, to top the feast off at the end of the evening.

The big moments of this evening?
#1- Grandma opens her present and puts on an excited expression and says: “Ooooooo… what is it?”
Me: “An ipod mom. You asked for one remember?”
(laughter envelopes the room)

#2- Grandpa opens his present (a Nintendo DS) and looks confused: “How does this work? Do I have to load games onto this?”
Me: “No dad. It’s like a gameboy. You can put cartridges in it.”
Grandpa: “Gameboy? I never played gameboy!”
Me: “Yes you have dad, it was the hand held game I used to have.”
Grandpa: “OH, you mean Tetris!”

It’s a good thing they just retired, they have a lot to learn about their new toys they received for Christmas.  :)

Day2: It’s CHRISTMAS!!! Ken and I decided to begin an annual tradition of our own, and spend Christmas morning together with just our small little family of Ashton, Suki, Ken and myself.

To start the day off, Ashton slept in till 8:15am!!! What a treat! He babbled away till we arose to greet the little angel and wish him a Merry Christmas. We headed straight for the living room to start the Christmas mahem. We tore open packages and bags, ate chocolates for breakfast and watched our son take pleasure in sifting through all our goodies, his toys and even stealing Suki’s new chew toys to play with.

Ash took his new Tonka truck and drove it through the wrapping paper, he fired the canon ball from his pirate ship at Suki, he used his new tools to bang on our space heater, and hid under the tree while babbling to himself.

Christmas literally threw up in our house, and I’ve never seen a happier baby boy as a result of it!

Later that afternoon, Grandma and Papa Chewski joined in our celebration. After I finished preparing dinner to cook and after we enjoyed a few pre-dinner treats, we all gathered in the living room for gift opening.

We were spoiled once again, including Suki!! Ash tried to claim Suki’s new bed as his own as soon as it was out of its packaging and onto the floor. Figures. Later on we partook in a feast of roasted chicken, homemade stuffing, carrots and mashed potatoes. Delicious! Grandma also brought us some shortbread and ginger cookies to chow down on after dinner. Yum!

Day#3: Boxing Day! Aunty Dani and Uncle Schmick came over to join in yet another holiday celebration. It just wouldn’t be complete without a get-together with our brother and sister at heart!

They gave Ash the craziest puppet that he LOVES!! Especially at diaper changing time. Suki on the other hand would tear it to shreds given the opportunity. At first sight she had her tail between her legs, hair up on her back, ears back, and lunged at the green snaggle toothed monster attached to my hand. Enough said. We later sat down to a mouth-watering breakfast of blueberry buttermilk pancakes, courtesy of daddy! Yay!

It was a BUSY holiday season this year, and a very memorable one! Thank you all for a wonderful, fun filled Christmas!!

Ashdown-Brooks-Nixon-Bell-Malczewski Christmas Celebration

The Ashdown, Brooks, Nixon, Bell, Malczewski Christmas celebration was bigger and better than ever this year with a whopping 22 people in attendance!  With the Ashdown’s hosting this year, we did our best to make it a memorable one.

The kids played with toys galore while the adults enjoyed holiday spirits, and tasty appetizers.  There were cheese dips, guacamole, taco dip, and much much more!

After a bit of visiting we sat down for a delicious feast of turkey, stuffing, potatoes, casseroles, meatballs, veggies… the list could go on, but my mouth is watering more than I can handle just thinking about it!

Afterwards we partook in a family gift exchange.  Ken and I brought ourselves home some kitchen utensils, a foot bath, a bath bubble maker and a couple more miscellaneous items.  It was a hectic evening that went off without a hitch!  It was a great time had by all and I can hardly wait till next year to do it all over again!

Happy 60th Birthday Mom!

This past Friday, my mom turned the BIG 6-0!! So on Sunday, Ken and I opened our home for a celebration like no other. There was snacks, chili, cake, family and gifts.

The entire crew all chipped in for a family ring to congratulate our mother in a special way. She LOVED it and said, “I ALWAYS wanted one!” We were so happy we could make this birthday a memorable one for you mom! And like I promised, I kept it small with no big surprises! ;)

Nicole and Kelly were the one’s dropping the enormous news of their upcoming wedding!! Kelly popped the question, and Nicole said YES!!! Congrats to the both of you, and happy birthday to my soon to be brother-in-law!!

All in all, a GREAT celebration!!!

Happy 1st Birthday Ash!!

That’s right folks! Our little baby boy had now entered the years of a toddler!! And what better way to celebrate it than with a bang?

Unfortunately on Ashton’s actual birthday, Friday October 29th, Ken and I were scheduled to work. But who better to spend the day with than Jenn all his daycare friends! Jenn threw a Halloween party on the Friday at daycare. There were treats, crafts and dancing!! Ash got to wear a birthday crown and all the kids at daycare gave Ash their crafts along with a handmade birthday card to wish him a Happy Birthday!!! Jenn was the lucky gal that got to experience Ashton’s first sugar high after a pumpkin spice muffin with orange colored icing, yum! Apparently he took his sweet time savoring it for 45 minutes!! Thank you Jenn for making his day a special one!

On Halloween afternoon, Ken and I organized a costume party for the birthday boy. There was one rule and one rule only. Wear a costume, or we’ll have one waiting for you! Everyone was a good sport and joined in the fun. Even Suki!!  It was hilarious to see what people came up with.  Remember, you are only as old as you feel...

We had planned to have Ash dressed in a dragon costume, but he was dedicated to his New York Yankees baseball player outfit. This made mommy proud!

There was quite the spread of food for everyone to enjoy, but what is a birthday without cake?  Ash got right in there with both hands, and gobbled up as much cake as he could before he opened his presents.

Ashton would like to thank everyone for being so generous and for making him feel so loved on his special day!  And also a big thank you to Declan for helping Ashton unwrap his presents, great job buddy!!

Happy Halloween!!
